Access for UN staff only

There are just over 100 days remaining until Umoja (Foundation) is deployed at the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) and the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator (UNSCOL) in Lebanon, in Pilot format.

Umoja, a streamlining of UN administrative processes facilitated by the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, is fast becoming a reality for the United Nations.

By 2016, the global UN Secretariat will have transitioned to Umoja as its central administrative tool, replacing multiple legacy systems and disparate operating models.

We invite all UN Staff to review a presentation attached here entitled “Umoja: A Better Way of Working
(UN intranet only) which provides an overview of the Umoja solution, details the timeline for Umoja deployment throughout UN offices worldwide, and introduces the main changes Umoja will bring to the way the UN works.

Chiefs of Administration, Directors and Chiefs of Mission Support and other senior managers at UN offices around the world have been asked to convene townhall meetings for staff at their locations to review the above presentation and ensure that staff are familiar with the basic concepts related to Umoja.

To mark the occasion of “100 Days until Umoja Pilot at UNIFIL and UNSCOL” Umoja is organizing a special event in the Secretariat Lobby at UN Headquarters in New York on Monday 25 March at 12:00 noon.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will make remarks and unveil an Umoja countdown clock which will ensure the Umoja deployment timeline is prominently visible at UNHQ.

In addition to remarks by the Secretary-General, USG Yukio Takasu of the Department of Management and Ambassador Miguel Berger Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany and Chair of the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly will address the event. Ernesto Baca, Assistant Secretary-General of Umoja, will moderate.

All UN Staff and Delegates are invited to attend, please see the invitation here (UN intranet only). The recording of the event will be made available via delayed webcast for UN Staff globally shortly following the event via UN Webcast.

Umoja has prepared a new postcard handout which will be distributed at the event and is also available for download in PDF here.
